+ What is Reach 1600?
Reach 1600 is an organization that provides free SAT prep summer programs for high school students in Oakland, California. Our summer programs are aimed at giving low-income, first-generation students a head start on higher education. We offer five-week summer programs in Oakland. Our program takes place four days a week for three hours each, with an optional fourth hour each day.
+ Why should I apply to this program?
Our program focuses on developing skills to convey your ideas clearly and concisely, an understanding of the foundational math and english skills needed to succeed on the SAT, improving your reading comprehension and critical analysis abilities, and fostering a strong support network of mentors and fellow students who’ll be there for you.
+ When is the 2017 program?
The 2017 program will be held in the summer. Specific dates will be announced closer to the date.
+ Where will the program be held?
The program will be held in Oakland, California. A specific location will be announced to the students closer to the start date of the program.
+ How much does the program cost?
The program is free for all low-income, first-generation students.
+ Does it matter when I apply?
The earlier you apply, the better! We’ll try to accommodate as many students as possible, but early applicants receive preference during the selection process.
+ When is the deadline for applications?
Applications have not been released yet, so the deadline will be announced when applications are open.
+ What if I missed the deadline?
We’ll place you on our waitlist and you’ll receive an update in May 2017 about your application.
+ I’m not a low-income or first-generation student in Oakland. Can I still apply?
Yes! As part of our mission, we give preference to low-income, first-generation students, but you are welcome to apply. We’ll add you to our waitlist and you’ll hear back in May 2017 about your application.
